Ladonia Fossil Park is Now Open in it's New Location on FM 904

Upper Trinity Regional Water District has now completed the new Ladonia Fossil Park located at 2242 FM 904, Ladonia, Texas 75449 where the FM 904 crosses the North Sulphur River.  The park includes an all-weather parking area, a covered pavilion with picnic tables and a paved pathway down to the river complete with benches along the way.  While the automatic gates may close after dark, if you find yourself behind the gates, pull forward toward the gate and the automatic sensor will open the gate to allow you to exit.  Upper Trinity will be adding informational signs in the near future to the kiosk located near the entrance to provide some additional information that fossil hunters might find interesting. Fossil hunters are reminded that access to the public is not allowed upstream of the Fossil Park, toward the Leon Hurse Dam and the mitigation area.  Additionally, motorized vehicles are prohibited except inside the parking area.

The new, permanent fossil park is just downstream of the Leon Hurse Dam, close to where Baker Creek flows into the North Sulphur River. The Baker Creek watershed spans approximately 22 square miles, and both Baker and McClure Creeks will continue to flow naturally into the North Sulphur River, facilitating the discovery of new fossils at the park over time. During periods of heavy rain, additional water may also flow over the Leon Hurse Dam spillway. The following map highlights where these creeks connect to the river and the location of the new Fossil Park.
