Ladonia Community Gardens - Grand Opening

April 2011

The City of Ladonia and the Charles Doyle Gardening Club are proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Ladonia Community Gardens!
(located at the corner of Mill Street and Hwy 34, next to Fannindel H.S. and across from Little Bethel Baptist Church.)

At the Gardens, you will find 15' X 20' garden plots designated for individuals and families to grow produce for their family, food banks and their own profit at the upcoming monthly seasonal Farmers & Arts Markets.    Master Gardeners from Bonham will be assisting us to make the Gardens a success and will gladly mentor our members and Ladonia citizens in all aspects of gardening.

Members are asked to donate just a little of their time and labor to reap a reasonable crop.    One third of the community crop will be reserved for members.    One third of the crop will be to sustain the Ladonia Farmers and Arts Market and the Gardens itself, and one third is already dedicated to the local Food Banks to benefit those who need assistance providing nutritious food for their families.

Fannindel Ag Department will have access to specifically designated Fannindel Garden Plots, and can also participate with the 'Community Garden Plots'.

There is no fee to be a member or to have an individual or family plot.    You must be a member to gain access to the gardens and must follow the common sense rules and guidelines of CDGC at LCG.

Funding for the non-profit Gardens will come from various sources such as the 'Antique Rose Dedication Garden', community residents, local & regional businesses, our F&A Markets, local fund raiser projects and possibly from grants.

Our Farmers and Arts Markets will also be a venue for local artisans to sell their hand made arts & crafts and hand crafted furniture, as well as antiques, primitives, foods & natural products and will simply be a fun place to visit with family, friends & neighbors each month from late Spring thru late Autumn, depending on Mother Nature, of course!

If you want to become a CDGC member, adopt a garden plot, or ensure the future of the Gardens with donations of labor, plantings, supplies or funds, and/or selling your hand crafts, antiques or natural products at the Farmers & Arts Market… please visit City Hall or Print and Fill Out an application (at the end of this page), email us LCGardens@CityofLadonia.com or leave a message at 903-367-7011.

Together, we can and will succeed in being better people, better friends, and better neighbors living in a beautiful, friendly, respectful place for others to visit -
Where Family, Friends, and Neighbors Grow Together!             Ladonia Community Gardens

Thank you, Amanda Adams

Home Test Gardens

The Charles Doyle Gardening Club is getting ready to plant at the Ladonia Community Gardens! Families & Individuals have already planted their own plots and very shortly we shall be planting several large community plots.

We need home gardeners to grow 'test gardens'.    There are many gardeners, who don't want to leave the comforts of their home yard. The Ladonia Community Gardens has a supply of seeds for our test gardeners. You will keep your crop.    At the end of the growing season, the home gardener will give the LCG their opinions of their test crop and will save some seeds for the LC Gardens for the next year's plantings.

What exactly is the garden all about?    It's about working together with your family, friends and neighbors to make a difference in each of our lives. It's about volunteering to help those in need by providing nutritious foods through food banks.    No one should ever go hungry.

The Ladonia Community Gardens is also about entrepreneurs!

We have been given this awesome opportunity to do more than simply grow food, herbs and flowers.         You can sell these items at our upcoming Ladonia Farmers & Arts Markets.    Maybe you have a great recipe for salsa, poke sallet or another food item.    Perhaps you'll grow gourds to make bird houses, weave door wreaths or garlic braids… the list goes as far as your imagination will lead you!    We are also working with the Texas Department of Agriculture, who will guide us to help make each of our dreams of entrepreneurship come true!

You may print an application from the this page below, or you may pick one up at City Hall. There is no cost to join.

Let's all join the Ladonia Community Gardens…
